Michael J. Caduto About P.E.A.C.E.

"All things are connected like the blood which unites one family."
Sealth (Chief Seattle), 1854

"The problem we face is the extension of the social conscience from people to land. A thing is right when it tends to preserve the integrity, stability, and beauty of the biotic community. It is wrong when it tends to do otherwise."
Aldo Starker Leopold, 1949

Statement of Purpose

The primary purpose of P.E.A.C.E.® is to provide exciting and enjoyable educational opportunities, outdoor experiences, publications, and conservation services that focus on nature, culture, human interactions, and the interrelationships between people and the environment. It is hoped that by helping people to better understand, appreciate, and experience the Earth and other cultures, as well as their connections with the natural and human environments, they will care more deeply for — and take responsible action to protect, preserve, and restore — the well-being of our planet. The Center's activities are based on a belief that promoting knowledge and positive social and environmental values will build a stronger life ethic to guide peoples' conduct as it affects their own lives and the world around them.

"The whole idea of compassion is based on a keen awareness of the interdependence of all these living beings, which are all part of one another and all involved in one another."
Thomas Merton

Outreach

Each year the efforts of P.E.A.C.E.® range throughout North America and beyond, reaching some 15,000 children annually, as well as teachers, naturalists, environmental educators, families, camp counselors, college students, and others. These services include performances, conference presentations, classroom visits, programs at libraries and nature centers, teacher workshops, field trips, nature walks, canoe programs, college courses, curriculum development and land conservation projects. Millions of people are reached through books and other media, including public television, local and national public radio, magazine articles and newspaper articles.

"The road we have long been traveling is deceptively easy, a smooth superhighway on which we progress with great speed, but at its end lies disaster. The other fork of the road — the one 'less traveled by' — offers our last, our only chance to reach a destination that assures the preservation of our earth."The public must decide whether it wishes to continue on the present road, and it can do so only when in full possession of the facts."
Rachel Carson, 1962

"The earth is what we all have in common, it is what we are made of and what we live from, and we cannot damage it without damaging those with whom we share it... By some connection we do not recognize, the willingness to exploit one becomes the willingness to exploit the other... It is impossible to care for each other more or differently than we care for the earth."
Wendell Berry, 1977

Financial Statement

Although P.E.A.C.E.® is not officially a non-profit organization, it is solely self-supporting through funds received from educational services, land conservation activities, publications, and contributions. Your financial support is greatly appreciated.
