Empowering Children in an Age of Climate Change

Empowering Children in an Age of Climate Change

How can we approach BIG environmental issues with children so they understand the problems and envision how to be part of the solution, rather than be overwhelmed? Michael Caduto shows how to make exploring climate change and renewable energy exciting, challenging and fun while empowering youth to believe in their ability help solve global issues. Drawing upon 40 years of international experience as an award-winning environmental educator, author, storyteller and specialist in environmental issues and ethics, Michael presents a model for enabling children to actively participate in solving climate change. This age-appropriate combination of information and skills shows kids how to fight climate change and help the people, plants and animals around the world that are being greatly impacted. Activities explore the forces of nature (sun, wind and water) and electromagnetic energy, and show how to harness renewable energy with kid-scale devices that actually create power they can use in daily life. Explorations include hands-on energy-savers, games, riddles and experiences for simplifying, getting outdoors and re-connecting with nature. Michael will share inspiring stories of youth from around the world who are doing amazing things to save Planet Earth. He will share his related book: Catch the Wind, Harness the Sun: 22 Super-Charged Projects for Kids. His other popular books include the Keepers of the Earth® series, Earth Tales from Around the World, Pond and Brook, Riparia’s River and A Guide on Environmental Values Education (UNESCO/UNEP).
